General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates as a casual Recycling Facility Leader I in Solid Waste Operations within the Recycling & Waste Management Division of the Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Solid Waste Operations and supervised by the Recycling Facility Leader V or Recycling Facility Attendant IV (as applicable) the Recycling Facility Attendant I contributes to the effective operation of CVRD Recycling facilities by primarily assisting the public in depositing their waste and recyclables in the appropriate area(s), performing tasks to ensure those materials and the overall facility are well maintained in order to provide a safe and convenient environment, and by providing relief support to other facility team staff.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduation or equivalency
  • Keyboarding and basic office equipment training
  • A minimum of one year of experience working in an industrial workplace including around traffic and industrial equipment
  • Experience in customer relations and conflict management
  • Experience with data entry and computer systems
  • Demonstrated Skid Steer operation experience
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Basic First Aid Certificate
  • Skid Steer Operator Safety Training certificate from a qualified instructor – employer provided 
  • Traffic Control Persons training – employer provided
  • WHMIS – employer provided

Hours of Work

This casual opportunity has no guaranteed hours of work per week, and may work up to 40 hours per week. Shifts are scheduled based on operational need. The successful applicant must be available to work a flexible schedule that includes a variety of days and hours per week.

Salary

This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937) with a  Step 1 wage rate of $31.37 per hour and a Step 2 wage rate of $33.21 per hour (2026 wage rates).
