Located on Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quw'utsun, Malahat, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Halalt, Penelakut, Stz'uminus, Lyackson, Pauquachin, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Nations. Local First Nations Peoples have stewarded the lands, waters, plants, and animals of this region since beyond time immemorial. The CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 95,000. We are seeking a results‑driven professional with strong leadership capabilities, sound judgment, and a commitment to high‑quality service to join the CVRD in this key role.

Administration and Programs Coordinator.

Reporting to the Manager, Cowichan Lake Recreation

This position oversees and coordinates the operations of the administration and programming functions in the areas of recreation, sport, arena sports, and community programming for the Cowichan Lake Recreation Division ensuring continuity of service. This position is responsible for facility and room booking rental functions with a focus on prioritizing robust customer service, staff management, and administrative accounting. This position is accountable for developing, managing, and monitoring assigned operational budgets, capital forecasts, and resource allocations.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Recreation Administration or related discipline to the job functions (i.e. Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, Outdoor Adventure, Tourism) or successful completion of a two (2) year related Business Administration program at the college level. In addition, completion of an entry level accounting course from a recognized accounting program or comparable university/college courses.
  • Training in Leadership and Management
  • Training in project management is preferred
  • Training in asset management is preferred
  • Five (years) of experience in related role(s) including the following experience:
  • A minimum of three (3) years of direct experience with administration and programming in the areas of recreation, sport, arena sports, and community programming
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a unionized, local government environment preferably in a recreation facility environment
  • Two (2) years of accounting experience preferably in a local government recreational environment
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 with CPR C
  • Serving it Right Certificate would be an asset
  • FoodSafe Certificate would be an asset

Hours of Work

This position works 35 hours per week and is eligible to participate in the CVRD’s Flex Time Program.

Salary

Salary range of $96,430.96 to $112,725.48 per year (2025 rates), commensurate with education, training and experience, a comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, and insurance benefits, pension, and paid vacation.
