Located on Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quw'utsun, Malahat, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Halalt, Penelakut, Stz'uminus, Lyackson, Pauquachin, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Nations. Reporting to the Manager, Solid Waste Operations the Solid Waste Logistics Superintendent position is a management/excluded role that forms part of the Employer’s management team and oversees the CVRD’s curbside collection program and recycling and waste hauling from CVRD recycling centres, to ensure continuous service including management responsibility for associated staff, and assists the Manager with the implementation and oversight of solid waste operations and waste diversion objectives. This position is accountable for developing, managing, and monitoring assigned operational budgets, capital forecasts, and resource allocations within approved financial frameworks. The Solid Waste Logistics Superintendent exercises independent managerial authority on behalf of the CVRD, including authority over staffing, training and development, scheduling, performance management, discipline, operational planning and decision making, budget administration, safety enforcement, and labour relations matters. The position represents management interests in dealings with unionized staff and is excluded from collective bargaining.

Qualifications

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Degree in a related field from a recognized university
  • Training in Leadership and Management
  • Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) training/certificate
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in logistics and/or managing and leading a fleet in waste management operations or similar multi-faceted operations, including managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Experience in strategic and daily operational route planning, scheduling, tracking budgets, data analysis, and writing reports
  • Experience with project management, procurement, asset management, monitoring contracts, and supervising contractors
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
  • Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Endorsement
  • Level 2 First Aid
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification
  • WHMIS Certificate – provided by employer

Hours of Work

Full time, 35 hours per week and the opportunity to participate in the CVRD’s Flex Time Program.

Salary

Salary range of $96,430.96 to $112,725.48 per year, commensurate with education, training and experience, a comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, and insurance benefits, pension, and paid vacation.
