General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for a temporary summer Supported Child Care Worker III position at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre in the South Cowichan Recreation Division within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Cowichan Lake Recreation and supervised by the Playschool Teacher the Supported Child Care Worker provides personal care to children (child) aged three to five years old and supports/facilitates the integration of the child into playschool and/or a community program.  This position may also have a reporting relationship to an external agency and may provide input to or participate on the team responsible for determining the child’s care requirements.

Qualifications

  • Secondary school graduation plus college or university courses in Early Childhood Education and Behaviour Management, or training as a Teacher’s Aide, or in Child & Youth Care or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • ECE Certification is preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience providing personal care and behaviour management to fragile children aged three to five years old who require a high-level of supported child care.
  • First Aid Level I with CPR C
  • Certification/training in relation to the child’s needs.

Hours of Work

This position is available for a period of 9 weeks commencing June 29, 2026 and continuing until August 28, 2026, subject to enrollment. Hours of work are 30-40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Salary

This non-union temporary summer position is compensated at $28.98 per hour, which is $24.66 per hour plus 17.5% pay in lieu of vacation, benefits and statutory holidays (2025 wage rates).
