General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to join our organization as a casual Truckdriver in Solid Waste Operations within the Recycling & Waste Management Division of the Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager - Solid Waste Operations and supervised by the Logistics Supervisor or the Recycling Leader V, the Truckdriver contributes to the effective operation of CVRD Recycling Facilities through the efficient and safe collection and hauling of residential and commercial waste using tandem axle collection trucks and other equipment as required. 

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduation or equivalent
  • Curbside Truck driving: Two (2) years of driving experience in a related field using a Class 3 Driver’s License or 6 months of driving for CVRD using a Class 3 Driver’s License is required
  • Roll-Off Truck driving or Relief Curbside Truck driving: Two (2) years of driving experience in a related field using a Class 3 Driver’s License is considered an asset
  • Experience in customer relations and conflict management
  • Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement
  • Basic First Aid Certificate
  • Front End Loader Operator Safety Training certificate from a qualified instructor – employer provided, would be an asset.
  • Excavator Operator Safety Training certificate from a qualified instructor – employer provided, would be an asset.

Hours of Work

As this is a casual, on-call opportunity there are no guaranteed hours of work. Shifts are scheduled based on operational need. The successful candidate must be able to work a flexible variety of hours and shifts.

Salary

This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937) with wage rate in 2 steps, $36.22 - $38.44 per hour (2026 rates), plus an additional 14.5% pay in lieu of vacation, benefits and statutory holidays.
