A temporary full-time Environmental Services Technician position is available in the Environmental Services Division within the Land Use Services Department at the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). This temporary assignment is expected to end December 31, 2026 with a possible extension to May 2027. Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services Division, the Environmental Services Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical, operational, and research tasks related to the objectives of the Environmental Services Division. This includes assisting with Division strategies, programs, and projects via conducting field work, data collection, measuring environmental indicators, and maintaining field equipment; performing preliminary data analysis and assisting with the interpretation of results; assisting with coordinating and facilitating various public and/or stakeholder meetings; assisting with grant applications; drafting reports and preparing displays and public information material including making public presentations; working with consultants; and aiding in partnerships to support environmental stewardship and protection.
This position will primarily be supporting the Drinking Water and Watershed Protection (DWWP) program (although work in other areas may also be assigned) so knowledge and experience in water and watershed science are considered particular assets.

Guaranteed 35 hours of work per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and eligible for flex time. This position may be required to attend some evening and weekend meetings / events. This position is eligible for part-time Work-From-Home consideration.
Wage rate in 3 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, $44.67 - $46.04 - $47.36 per hour (2025 rates). Benefits are included as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
