General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to work as Parks Crew in the in the Parks & Trails Division for summer 2026.

Reporting to the Manager of Parks Operations or designate, Parks Crew work on park, trail and outdoor recreation area infrastructure projects to support new park amenity development and capital asset replacement.

Qualifications

  • Preferred candidates are enrolled in post secondary studies.
  • Successful candidates possess working knowledge of the safe use of hand held equipment used in painting, construction and landscaping; rough construction, landscape installation and maintenance techniques; trail building and, motorized equipment.
  • A valid Class 5 BC drivers' license and a First Aid Level I Certificate are required.
  • Successful candidates are physically fit and possess:
  • The ability to learn the safe and competent operation of small ride-on construction equipment.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with customers and the general public.
    • The ability to follow instructions and work in a team setting.
  • Preference will be given to candidates aged 15-30 years as per the Canada Summer Jobs Program through Service Canada, however candidates outside of this age range will be considered.

Hours of Work

This position is available for a period of 17 weeks commencing on May 4, 2026 and continuing until August 26, 2023, subject to funding. Hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, subject to funding.

Salary

This temporary position is unionized (CUPE Local 358) and is compensated at $23.07 per hour. Additionally, this position will receive 14.5% in lieu of benefits, statutory holidays and vacation, bringing the compensation to $26.42 per hour. (2025 wage rates)
