A temporary full time Local FireSmart Representative position is available in the Emergency Management Cowichan Division within the Community Services Department at the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). This temporary position is expected to run until September 12, 2026, with the possibility of extension, subject to funding. Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Operations & Planning and supervised by the FireSmart Coordinator, the Local FireSmart Representative will assist in the implementation and maintenance of the Cowichan FireSmart program. The position will manage objectives under the Community Wildfire Prevention Plan (CWPP) by planning, organizing, and facilitating FireSmart activities and educational programs to the public, including identifying and engaging volunteer neighborhood FireSmart champions. The Local FireSmart Representative will lead the completion of FireSmart assessments, mitigation activities and post-mitigation assessments/scorecards for residential properties and community assets and infrastructure.

Guaranteed 35 hours per week. Applicants must be available to work a variety of shifts to meet operational requirements including days, evenings and weekends. This position is eligible for flex time.
Wage rate in 3 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, $40.01 - $41.15 - $42.38 per hour (2025 rates). Benefits are included as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
