General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for casual Building Maintenance Ice Maker I and Utility Worker opportunities in the West Cowichan Section of the Facilities & Transit Division within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Facility Operations (West Cowichan) and supervised by the Building Maintenance Ice Maker II, the Building Maintenance Ice Maker I performs a variety of routine tasks related to the operation, maintenance and cleanliness of the facility, operational equipment and machinery.  

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduation or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • One (1) year of experience in facilities maintenance, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • WHMIS Certificate – provided by employer
  • First Aid Level I with CPR
  • Refrigeration Operator Certificate (preferred) or Ice Facility Operator Certificate
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Trades certification would be an asset

Hours of Work

This casual opportunity has no guaranteed hours of work per week, and may work up to 40 hours per week. Shifts are scheduled based on operational need. The successful applicant must be available to work a flexible schedule that includes a variety of days and hours per week.

Salary

This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937) with a wage range in two steps: $35.18 - $37.39 per hour with an Ice Facility Operator Certificate and $35.77 - $37.97 per hour with a Refrigeration Operator Certificate (2025 wage rates).

Note: Successful candidates who do not meet the Building Maintenance Ice Maker I qualifications, will be paid at the Utility Worker rate of $32.36 - $34.54 per hour.
