General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to join our organization as a casual ECE Assistant I at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre in the South Cowichan Recreation Division within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Child Care Coordinator and under the primary direction of the ECE Instructor, the ECE Assistant I works with the ECE Instructor to develop and implement the Preschool or Group Care programs, including adhering to licensing policies and guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Secondary School graduation and an Assistant Certificate from the Early Childhood Education Registry Program.
  • Early Childhood Education license to practice would be an asset.
  • Valid Class 4 BC Driver’s License would be an asset.
  • Licensing requirements include: must be 19 years of age, a certificate of health, three letters of reference and a criminal record check.
  • Child Care Licensing Approved First Aid Course.
  • Experience working in a Licensed Child Care setting.

Hours of Work

As these are casual opportunities, there are no guaranteed hours of work. Hours of operation are typically Monday through Friday with shifts occurring between the hours of 7:00 a.m. ‑ 6:00 p.m. Hours of work are based on operational need and may vary to accommodate facility events.

Salary

This non-union casual opportunity has a wage range in two steps, $24.66 - $25.94 per hour, plus an additional 17.2% pay in lieu of vacation, benefits and stat holidays, as per the Non-Union Wage Scale (2025 rates).
