General Information

Majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles all lie in the picturesque Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). Located on Vancouver Island, the CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 80,000 within its 4 distinct municipalities and 9 electoral areas. Just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities.


The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for the regular full-time Systems Support Technician position in the Information Technology Division within the Corporate Services Department.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Information Technology Division, and supervised by the IT Project Manager, the Systems Support Technician will provide a high level of professional customer service through a variety of telephone, e-mail, and remote support interactions. This involves analytical and technically oriented troubleshooting work to provide support for computer applications, telecommunications devices, computer hardware and network communication equipment.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School Graduation plus completion of post-secondary certificate program in computer sciences or related discipline
  • A minimum of one year of experience working in an information technology service desk support role
  • Experience working in a public sector or service-oriented environment is considered an asset
  • ITIL Certification is considered an asset
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

Hours of Work

Guaranteed 35 hours of work per week and eligible for flex time. Hours of work are generally Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., however this position may be required to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays to meet operational needs. Participation in the after-hours IT on-call rotation is required.

Salary

Wage rate in 3 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, $40.01- $41.15 - $42.38 per hour (2025 rates). Benefits are included as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
