The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for casual Out of School Care Leader I or II opportunities in the South Cowichan Recreation Division within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Child Care Coordinator, the Out of School Care Leader I works with the Coordinator to develop and implement the Out of School Care program, including adhering to licensing policies and guidelines.

• Out of School Care Leader I:

  • Minimum Secondary School Graduation.
  • Have completed a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
  • Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care Diploma or other related degree or working towards acquiring your diploma would be an asset
  • Child Care Licensing Approved First Aid Course
  • Licensing requirements include: must be 19 years of age, a certificate of health, three letters of reference and a criminal record check.
  • Some relevant work experience in a childcare setting

   

  Out of School Care Leader II:

  • Out of School Care Leader I qualifications, plus:
  • Class 4 Driver’s License
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children
  • Working within a licensed care facility would be an asset

Casual hours of work are set during hours of operation which are typically Monday through Friday with split shifts occurring between the hours of 7:00 a.m. ‑ 6:00 p.m.  Hours of work are based on operational need and may vary to accommodate facility operations.

 The Out of School Care Leader I has a wage range in 3 steps, of $22.24 - $23.43 - $24.66 per hour and the Out of School Care Leader II has a wage range in 3 steps, $23.43 - $24.66 - $25.94 per hour, as per the Non-Union Wage Scale (2025 rates).  This position will also get an additional 17.2% pay in lieu of vacation, benefits and statutory holiday.
