General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for Truck Driver opportunities in the Recycling & Waste Management Division within the Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager - Solid Waste Operations and supervised by the Recycling Leader V, the Truck Driver contributes to the effective operation of CVRD Recycling Facilities through the efficient and safe collection and hauling of residential and commercial waste using tandem axle collection trucks and other equipment as required. 

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduation or equivalent
  • Curbside Truck driving: Two (2) years of driving experience in a related field using a Class 3 Driver’s License or 6 months of driving for CVRD using a Class 3 Driver’s License is required
  • Roll-Off Truck driving or Relief Curbside Truck driving: Two (2) years of driving experience in a related field using a Class 3 Driver’s License is considered an asset
  • Experience in customer relations and conflict management
  • Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement
  • Level 1 First Aid with CPR
  • Front End Loader Operator Safety Training certificate from an accredited institution would be an asset.
  • Excavator Operator Safety Training certificate from an accredited institution would be an asset.

Hours of Work

This casual opportunity has no guaranteed hours of work per week and shifts are scheduled based on operational need. The successful applicant must be available a minimum of 2 days per week and be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes a variety of days and hours per week.

Salary

This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937) with starting wage of $32.99 per hour and (2023 wage rate), plus an additional 14% pay in lieu of vacation, benefits and statutory holidays.
