General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for the casual Out of School Care Leader I position at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre in the South Cowichan Recreation Division within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Child Care Coordinator, the Out of School Care Leader I works with the Coordinator to develop and implement the Out of School Care program, including adhering to licensing policies and guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Secondary School Graduation.
  • Have completed a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
  • Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care Diploma or other related degree or working towards acquiring your diploma would be an asset
  • Child Care Licensing Approved First Aid Course
  • Licensing requirements include:  must be 19 years of age, a certificate of health, three letters of reference and a criminal record check.
  • Some relevant work experience in a childcare setting

Hours of Work

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. ‑ 6:00 p.m. Typcial shifts would be 2:15 pm - 5:30 pm on school days, with the possibilty of more hours on school breaks. Hours of work are based on operational need and may vary to accommodate facility operations.

Salary

This non-union opportunity has a wage range in 3 steps, $21.59 - $22.75 - $23.94 per hour (2024 rates), plus an additional 17.2% pay in lieu of vacation, benefits and statutory holidays, as per the Non-Union Wage Scale.
