The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to work as a Camp Leader at Cowichan Lake Recreation for summer 2023. Under the supervision of the Recreation Programmer II, the Camp Leader plans weekly camps in both our community parks and at the recreation centre. The Playground Leader provides direct leadership, instruction and supervision in a varied and comprehensive program for children ages 3 – 12. There is an educational component to daily activities plus encouragement to become more active and promoting healthier lifestyles.

• Preferred candidates are enrolled in post-secondary education in a related field.
• A valid first aid with child CPR certificate and a BC Driver’s License is required.
• Theoretical and/or practical experience developing, promoting and leading recreation programs including leading and supervising children aged 3-12 years old is required.
• Knowledge of programming for summer camp is also required.
• Knowledge of public relations and marketing would be an asset.
• The successful candidate is enthusiastic, energetic and enjoys working with children.
• Successful candidates also possess effective organization skills and the ability to:
  • Establish and maintain a respectful, fun relationship with children while maintaining a position of authority.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, managers, and the general public.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing when communicating with children, parents and supervisors including listening and following direction.
  • Work independently as well as a member of a team.
• Preference will be given to candidates aged 15-30 years as per the Canada Summer Jobs Program through Service Canada, however candidates outside of this age range will be considered.

This position is available for a period of 10 weeks commencing June 26, 2023 and continuing until September 1, 2023, subject to enrolment and funding. Hours of work are 35 to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, subject to enrolment and funding.

This temporary position is non-union, and is compensated at $24.41 per hour, which is $20.86 per hour plus 6% pay in lieu of benefits, 6% pay in lieu of vacation and 5% pay in lieu of statutory holidays.
