General Information

Casual Program Assistant I opportunities are available at the Kerry Park Recreation Centre within the South Cowichan Recreation Division of the Community Services Department at the Cowichan Valley Regional District. Reporting to the Manager, South Cowichan Recreation and directly supervised by the Programs & Marketing Coordinator, the Program Assistant I assists with implementing recreation programs and special events including program leadership, supervision, instructional support, and administration, and encourages participation in recreation programs and special events.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduation or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • One (1) year of experience in a recreation leadership capacity, including experience instructing and supervising recreation programs and events.
  • Current First Aid Level 1 with CPR
  • Class 5 drivers license – employer provided vehicle

Hours of Work

Casual hours of work are scheduled based on operational need and will be required to work a flexible variety of shifts including days & evenings on weekdays & weekends. As this is a casual opportunity, there are no guaranteed hours of work.

Salary

This casual opportunity is unionized (CUPE Local 358) and has a starting wage of $24.96 per hour (which is $21.80 per hour plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation, 6% pay in lieu of benefits and 2.5% pay in lieu of statutory holidays), as per the 2023 CUPE Wage Scale.
