General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to join our organization as a casual Food & Beverage II – Bartender in the Cowichan Community Centre Division within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Programs & Events Coordinator, and supervised by the Hospitality Supervisor, the Bartender performs bartending functions in all Cowichan Community Centre venues and ensures patron satisfaction by providing the best service possible.  The Bartender stores, prepares, handles, and serves all alcohol and non-alcohol related products, stocks the bar, performs cashiering, washes dishes, and ensures an organized, clean service environment. 


  • Secondary School Graduation and a course in Mixology, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Bartending and mixology experience.
  • Experience handling cash and using cash machines including cash registers, interac and credit card.
  • Serving it Right
  • FoodSafe
  • First Aid Level 1 with CPR
  • WHMIS Certificate – provided by employer

Hours of Work

As this is a casual opportunity, there are no guaranteed hours of work. Hours of work are scheduled based on operational need.  Successful candidates must be available to work a flexible variety of shifts including days & evenings on weekdays, weekends, statutory holidays, and school professional development days.


This casual opportunity is unionized (CUPE Local 358) and has a starting wage of $19.16 per hour (which is $16.81 per hour plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation, 6% pay in lieu of benefits and 2% pay in lieu of statutory holidays), as per the 2021 CUPE Wage Scale.
