General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to join our organization as a casual Skating Instructor II in the Cowichan Lake Recreation Division within the Community Service’s Department. Reporting to the Recreation Centre Manager or designate and supervised by recreation programming staff the Skating Instructor II facilitates and leads both the Active Communities Learn to Skate lessons and private lessons to a variety of age groups to help them gain confidence, skills, and knowledge both on and off the ice.

Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to those that have completed Grade 11.
  • Inter-municipal Learn to Skate Instructor Training and/or NCCP Coaching Certification in a related discipline such as hockey, skating, or ringette is considered an asset.    
  • Experience in providing skating instruction, guidance, and encouragement is considered an asset.
  • Experience in lesson planning is considered an asset.
  • Preference may be given to individuals that have worked or volunteered in a recreation type environment.
  • First Aid with Child CPR
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s License an asset. 
  • WHMIS Certificate – provided by the employer if needed.

Hours of Work

As this is a casual opportunity, there are no guaranteed hours of work. Due to the nature of the position, the successful candidate must be prepared to work a flexible variety of shifts including days & evenings on weekdays & weekends.

Salary

This non-union casual opportunity has a starting wage rate of $21.72 per hour (which is $18.56 per hour plus an additional 6% pay in lieu of vacation, 6% pay in lieu of benefits and 5% pay in lieu of statutory holidays), as per the 2023 Non-Union Wage Scale.
