General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to join our organization as a casual Corporate Administrative Assistant working primarily in the head office in Duncan. Reporting to the Executive Coordinator and supervised by the assigned department-designated supervisor, the Corporate Administrative Assistant provides exceptional and professional customer service and administrative services in support of CVRD operations. This position works in several areas of the main CVRD office including:  Land Use Services, Operations, Emergency Management, Legislative Services, and Finance.


  • Secondary school graduation plus completion of a minimum 6 month certificate in office administration or business administration from a recognized post-secondary educational institution
  • Four (4) years of related experience in an administrative support role.
  • Experience in local government is considered an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s License

Hours of Work

Business hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and hours of work may be up to 35 hours per week. As these are casual opportunities there are no guaranteed hours of work. Due to the nature of the work the work schedule will be coordinated to meet the operational needs of the head office and may include shifts in blocks of time for planned absences or shifts on short-notice for unplanned absences. Successful candidates must be available to work a flexible variety of shifts, primarily days, but may include evenings (for meetings) and weekends (during emergencies). Overtime shall be compensated as per the CVRD and CUPE Local 358 collective agreement after 7 hours per day/35 hours per week.


These positions are unionized (CUPE Local 358) and compensated at the Secretary II level, in three steps, $28.99 ‑ 29.88 ‑ 30.77 per hour (2021 wage rate).
