General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to join our organization as a casual Janitor within the North/Central Cowichan Facilities Section, of the Facilities & Transit, in the Community Services Department.  Reporting to the Facility Coordinator and supervised by the Janitor - Lead Hand, the Janitor performs a variety of tasks related to janitorial/custodial work and cleaning methods in CVRD facilities, and will work primarily at the Cowichan Community Centre.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduation or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 1 year experience in cleaning routines, materials, equipment usage and facility custodial operations
  • WHMIS certification -- provided by the employer
  • First Aid, Level 1 with CPR
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License – employer provided vehicle

Hours of Work

Shifts are scheduled based on operational need and may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends. Due to the casual, on-call nature of this opportunity the successful candidate must be available to work a flexible variety of shifts. There are no guaranteed hours of work.

Salary

This Janitor position is unionized (CUPE Local 358) with a salary ranging in three steps from $28.20 - $29.02 - $29.90 per hour (2021 rates).
