General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to work as a Lifeguard for summer 2022. Working under the supervision of the Licensed Child Care Coordinator , the Lifeguard guards the waterfront for South Cowichan Recreation day camps at Shawnigan Lake.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must possess a valid NLS certificate as well as a First Aid with Child CPR certificate.
  • Waterfront certification is an asset.
  • Lifeguarding experience is required.
  • Experience lifeguarding in a waterfront setting is an asset.
  • The successful candidate is enthusiastic, energetic and enjoys working with children.
  • The successful candidate possesses the ability to:
    • Perform lifeguarding duties in a lakefront environment.
    • Establish and maintain a respectful, fun relationship with children while maintaining a position of authority.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, managers, and the general public.
    • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing when communicating with children, parents and supervisors, including listening and following direction.
    • Work independently as well as a member of a team.

Hours of Work

This position commences June 20, 2022 and ends on August 26, 2022. Anticipated hours of work are 10 to 15 hours per week with additional hours potentially available in other camp leader positions, subject to enrolment and funding. The work week is Monday through Friday. This position may be combined with a part time Playground Leader position to provide full time hours.  

Salary

This temporary, non-union position is compensated at $20.22 per hour (2021 rate). Additionally, this position will receive 12% in lieu of benefits and vacation, bringing the compensation to $22.64 per hour.
